How To Ditch Overwhelm: Try this Game-Changing Exercise
Have you ever felt completely buried under a never-ending to-do list? Like no matter how much you do, there’s always more—and instead of feeling accomplished, you just feel exhausted?
Same.
While I’m all about inspired action, I’ve also learned (the hard way) that there’s a fine line between creating momentum and slipping into self-sabotage. The tricky part? It often looks the same from the outside.
So how do we tell the difference? We check in with how we feel.
- If you feel good, excited, and aligned—AMAZING. You’re moving in the right direction.
- If you feel like sh*t—hello, sabotage mode.
When Doing Too Much Works Against You
Sometimes, in our desire to be productive, we push ourselves beyond what’s actually helpful. We say yes to too much. We take on more than we need to. We pile on task after task, thinking that if we just do more, we’ll feel better.
But here’s the truth: Joy isn’t found in the hustle. It’s found in clarity, alignment, and trust.
That’s where my favorite process for simplifying comes in.
The Placemat Process: A Simple Way to Lighten Your Load
One of the easiest ways to cut through overwhelm and bring ease back into your day is a Law of Attraction exercise called The Placemat Process. I often teach this to my clients and students, and it’s a total game-changer.
Here’s how to do it:
1️⃣ Grab a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle.
2️⃣ Label the left side: ‘What the Universe Will Handle’
3️⃣ Label the right side: ‘What I Will Do’
4️⃣ Brain-dump everything on your plate onto the left side. Seriously, all of it.
5️⃣ Choose just 3-5 things to move over to the right. Focus on those first. Only bring more over when you’re ready.
Why This Works
This process shifts your focus from overwhelm to simplicity, clarity, and trust. Instead of carrying the weight of everything on your plate, you’re allowing space for ease, flow, and support—both seen and unseen.
And guess what? By narrowing your focus, you actually get more done—without the stress spiral.
So, what are your top 3-5 things today? Keep it simple, cheer yourself on—I’ll be cheering for you too.
