From Force To Flow: Finding Your Ideal Pace For A Joyful Life
As I am trying to create more white space in my life, I notice how much of my time has been filled with doing. It’s easy to get swept up in the momentum, especially when I’m in a creative flow.
Lately, I’ve been noticing the difference between flow and force. Flow feels expansive, natural, and deeply satisfying. Force, on the other hand, feels like a grind—like I’m stretching myself too thin, saying yes without checking in, and pushing past my natural rhythm. And let’s be real: that’s not sustainable. Constant motion without pause leads to depletion, or worse… burnout.
So, I’m choosing a different way. And I invite you to do the same.
Tuning Into Your Natural Rhythm
When was the last time you truly paused to check in with yourself? To ask if the pace you’re moving at actually aligns with how you want to feel?
Too often, we get swept up in momentum—especially when we’re in a creative flow. But even creativity needs space to breathe. Without rest, joy, and presence, our inspiration dries up, and what once felt expansive starts to feel like an obligation.
I’ve been asking myself these simple yet powerful questions:
- What pace am I moving at right now
- Does it align with how I want to feel?
- Am I making space for rest, joy, and presence—or just pushing forward?
If my current rhythm isn’t supporting me, I know it’s time to pause and recalibrate. I get to choose a pace that nourishes me, that allows me to create and show up with joy—not exhaustion.
The Myth of ‘More is Better’
We live in a world that glorifies busy. Hustle culture tells us that more is always better—more work, more output, more grinding. But here’s the truth: more isn’t always better. What if less is better?
When we force ourselves to move at an unsustainable speed, we dilute our impact. We trade quality for quantity, joy for burnout, and creativity for exhaustion. But when we honour our natural rhythm, we create from a place of alignment. Our energy becomes magnetic. Our work becomes infused with purpose and power.
How to Find Your Ideal Pace
Finding your ideal pace isn’t about doing less—it’s about doing what truly matters, in a way that feels good. Here are a few ways to start:
- Check in with your energy – Pay attention to how different activities make you feel. Do they energize or drain you? Adjust accordingly.
- Create white space – Block out time for rest, reflection, and joy. Your best ideas often come in moments of stillness.
- Practice saying no – Not every opportunity is meant for you. Protect your time and energy for what truly aligns.
- Trust your rhythm – Your natural pace may not look like someone else’s. Honour what works for you.
- Celebrate your wins – Progress isn’t just about doing more—it’s about doing what feels aligned. Acknowledge your growth along the way.
Joy Warriors, we don’t have to force or push. We get to move with intention, choosing a pace that feels expansive and true.
So, I’d love to hear from you—what pace feels right for you right now? Where in your life could you create more flow and less force?
